We love Amy

Jan 24,2013
Tomorrow is the 3 year anniversary of Amy's accident.

This is a day of sadness and a day of celebration. We are sad because we miss what was and what should have been. Amy would be in middle school this year. Being obsessed with her clothes, starting to experiment with make up and being boy crazy!

Reality is so far from that dream that it is almost to painful of a comparison.

Amy Sue has defied the odds and survived the unimaginable....not many can say that! She is still always a happy young lady and I thank God every minute of everyday that she smiles!

Amy Sue Root is a beautiful girl inside and out and I am grateful for the time God has allowed her to be with me! I believe the reason she did not die was because God knew it would destroy me heart & soul. Although my dreams for my daughter may never be reality, her love for us all has given me the strength to endure challenges that I would never believed I could tolerate!

Thank you my child for giving me hope and love! Thank you for your unwavering smiles and spirit! Your mom loves you and I am truly blessed to have you in my life...you are a gift from God! Who knew angels lived among us....

Forever,
Mommy <3 span="">

Amy Sue Root's Story

April 20, 2010

Amy Sue is currently in brain rehab in Jacksonville, Florida.  At this time, her diagnosis is that she is not a candidate for rehab and they are planning to discharge her home on April 26, 2010.

Amy will require tons of medical equipment as she still has a trachostomy and PEG tube and of course a permanent shunt placed in her head.  My family will also require a van handicap wheel chair accessible to transport her to outpatient rehab and doctors appointments.  Unfortunately, I am not getting an extension on my family medical leave and am having to pay COBRA insurance, that I cannot afford.

It seems as through the future of my family is dependent on the kindness of family, friends, and strangers at this time.  I think our health care system is a joke ..... what happens to the middle class, working people in this country???

God Bless

http://www.tbirecovery.org/LongTermPhase.html  This web site gives information on severe brain trauma and talks about the "brain" neuro storms ... if interested check it out!

Thank you everyone for your love and support!

Just wanted to update everyone on our last week in Orlando.  Amy Sue is currently off the ventilator and breathing on her own with a trach collar.  She is having neurological "brain storms" and has periods of increased heart rate, increased breathing, and rigid muscles.  She has been slowly getting weaned off methadone and valium.  She appears to be having some withdrawal symptoms and with the brain storms it is hard to determine which one is affecting her.  She looks much better with the road rash wounds healing up nicely and not having a ventilator in her mouth.  She is getting fed with a G-tube with Pedisure and so her weight is remaining stable so far.  She is scheduled for a CT scan of her head on Sunday. Amy is still in pediatric intensive care.  She has a few more surgeries scheduled for sometime in the next month.

The kids and I are back in Edgewater for the weekend.  Lauren and Noah are spending most of the weekend with their friends and I am just taking a much needed break!  We are so very thankful to each and everyone one of you for your prayers and kindness!  God Bless you all!  Sue
